Creating a Shamanically Empowered Altar: The Pachakuti Mesa Tradition (PMT)

  • Ukhu Pacha Healing & Inquiry Space 1501 Washington Avenue Albany, CA 94706

Join us as we come together to create a sacred altar. The main focus of this class is to equip people with the fundamentals of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, as originated by kamasqa curendero, don Oscar Miro-Quesada.

"Pachakuti" means "world reversal" and refers to the time of transformation we are living now. A mesa is an altar for self-exploration, transformation and personal growth in which we create a new paradigm of one's relation to the Self and the Universe. This tradition, in all its richness, is an evolving practice of inner and outer activities that restore balance and harmony to our relationships with All That Is.

In this class, you will create a mesa and begin working with it. Emphasis is on the 5 directions and how these each represent an aspect of the self. This expanded basics workshop also covers an introduction of the three worlds, a brief introduction of the lineage, and the setting up, activating and using of your newly created mesa.

To create your own shamanically empowered Pachakuti Mesa, you will need to bring:

-A (preferably square) cloth with at least 8", no larger than 36"
-One stone "relative"
-One shell
-One feather
-A white candle with glass holder
-One personal power piece. It may be anything that has a special significance to you. It may be one or your most precious items, for the center of your altar.

The workshop is "hands on", allowing students to set up and work with their mesas while under the tutelage of an elder in the tradition. We will have a mesa, set up by the teacher that will be worked/utilized during the workshop for students to experience.

Two books will be available for purchase for continued learning: "Lessons in Courage - Peruvian Shamanic Wisdom for Everyday Life" by don Oscar Miro-Quesada and "Peruvian Shamanism - The Pachakuti Mesa" by Matthew (Mateo) McGee.
